The current focus of Urban Illuminations is the production of sconces and ceiling light fixtures that illuminate etched glass images made from prints and photographs of New York City manhole covers. Each fixture is hand crafted into a cylinder of copper, steel or stainless steel, which can be modified for unique architectural situations. Compact fluorescent bulbs are used as the light source for energy efficiency. Their color can be adjusted through the use of light gels inserted behind the glass. The choice of patterned covers range in design and size depending upon individual choice and needs. Custom orders are always welcome for covers outside of New York City.
